London 2012 Home Head Journey

Why we're getting behind David and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local athlete, David Hughes, as he attempts to qualify for a place at the Olympic Games’.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

David started athletics at school, and trained at Scunthorpe Athletics club. He made a breakthrough in 2003 when he made his Great British debut at the European U20 Championships. He then went on to victory at the European U23 Championships in 2005. David also achieved seventh place in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

‘I'd like to say a really big thank you to Astle and BMW,’ said David. ‘It's great that they're putting so much faith in me. The training regime for a London 2012 hopeful is relentless so it really helps to have people behind you. I have always loved BMW and can't believe I'll be driving one from now until the end of the 2012 Games.’

Mike Baldry, Managing Director at Astle, said: ‘Getting behind our local London 2012 hopeful is a great opportunity for everyone connected with Astle to get involved with the Games. Everyone is very proud of David and will be over the moon should he qualify. We're hoping to see more of him here at the dealership and will be giving customers the chance to meet him later in the year.’
